Today, the Government have announced a commitment to establish a new National Housing Bank, which will be the government’s investment arm for housing, backed by £16bn of finance.
This finance, over its lifetime, will support delivery of over 500,000 new homes, hundreds of thousands of job opportunities in the construction sector, and generate an additional £53bn of additional private investment.
£2.5 billion of low-interest loans will be available for social housing providers to increase their capacity to invest in new developments.
As part of this announcement, an additional £5bn of capital grant funding will be available for housing, deployed across the country by Homes England and Mayors to support housing delivery.
Alongside the work of the Bank, this will deliver grant funding to projects which would otherwise be unviable. It will bring forward large, complex and transformative schemes, including those which require remediation of brownfield sites.
This is the kind of long term, joined up thinking I'm very pleased to see our Labour Government engaging in to tackle the housing crisis. ... See MoreSee Less

just remind rossendale council before they start falling over themselves to give the go ahead to more housing in whitworth WE ARE FULL. without major transport links being improved and a 2nd route through the valley plus schools, dentists and gp places you cant build anything else here on a large scale.
Another waist of tax payers money!
For who
Caitlin Chippendale would make an excellent Borough Councillor for Whitworth. Her strong local connections means she has a deep understanding of the issues affecting Whitworth, and it's clear that she has passion and experience in the realms of helping people and solving problems.
Residents of Whitworth have an opportunity on Thursday 26th of June to elect someone who will serve their community tirelessly, and that candidate is Labour's Caitlin Chippendale.Hi, I'm Caitlin Chippendale and I'm your Labour🌹candidate for Whitworth.
I'm Rossendale born and bred and went to Whitworth High School, where I was Head Girl.
I've been involved in local politics for most of my life because of my Grandad Tom Aldred, a very well known and respected Whitworth Town Councillor, Rossendale Councillor and Alderman. I know the difference that an active and involved local councillor can make to the lives of people here. I remember going out leafletting and campaigning with my grandad when I was very young and I saw for myself the hard work and commitment he put into serving his community and he inspires me to do the same.
I'm a problem solver. I work for a charity which rehouses homeless people and I'm with them every step of the way in helping to sort out their problems. I ensure that people get a helping hand when they need it.
I'm studying for a maths degree at the Open University and I'd like to become a Maths teacher. I've been working towards this by providing voluntary tuition for local schoolchildren.
I'm an active member of the Mayor of Rossendale's fundraising committee and I've enjoyed arranging events to raise money for the Mayor's chosen charities.
Amongst my local concerns are the poor state of the roads and pavements in our area, particularly along Market St, and the unsatisfactory standard of repair work from Lancashire County Council. I'm also worried about loneliness and depression in the community and accessibility to Mental Health Services, particularly for young people.
As your local Whitworth Councillor I will be a strong voice for our area. I would be honoured to be given the chance to represent Whitworth at Rossendale Borough Council and I hope that voters will put their faith in me at the polling station on June 26th. ... See MoreSee Less

No thanks.
Today is Thank a Teacher Day. It's an opportunity for all of us to say thank you to the many teachers working hard for young people across Rossendale and Darwen.
This Labour government is backing our teachers because we know that high quality teaching is the single biggest way to improve outcomes for young people. We are delivering:
- A 5.5% pay rise last year, 4% this year
- Action on workload and wellbeing
- Record investment in our schools at the Spending Review
- Ensuring teachers aren’t overstretched and undervalued as they were under the Tories
As part of our Plan for Change, we are already seeing the results of this strategy:
- We’ve ended year-on year declines in teacher recruitment
- A 24% increase in vital STEM subjects – up 49% in computing, 44% in physics
- Over 2,300 more teachers in our secondaries and special schools
- Over a thousand more in training
- We’re over a third of the way to our first step of recruiting 6,500 expert teachers

As a teacher of many years, the biggest challenge we’re facing now is the massively growing numbers of children with special educational needs in mainstream, many of whom present with challenging behaviour. They need adjustments and provisions to be made to enable them to access their education and to minimise the impact of their behaviour on themselves and others. School budgets (particularly primary schools) just can’t stretch far enough and there isn’t enough time available to plan properly to meet need. For decades, governments from both main parties have pursued keeping the majority of children in mainstream provision. That’s not a bad aim but as more and more children present with complex and challenging needs, the system needs to be relooked at. We do need more specialist provision and much, much more support for mainstream schools for them to meet the needs of ALL of the pupils. Pay rises are good, and well overdue, but they don’t overrule the exhaustion of trying to juggle competing needs without enough time or resource.
Great to see the police responding to residents concerns about speeding. We now need support for Lancashire County Council to establish safe crossings and permanent speed cameras where needed. ... See MoreSee Less

It’s weird I always see them in places they know they will catch speeders . Sit outside Darwen Vale at the time you see pupil leaving as loads come through racing past the school. It’s been going on for years , or will it take a child being seriously hurt
The road out of Darwen towards Bolton is absolutely insane, especially on weekends! There are some bike and car drivers on Saturdays that could go prison with the criminal speeds they do in a 30.
About time you called for action, Andy, just wondering if it is a pop at Reform now they are in power in LCC, maybe you should be finding out why taxpayers' money is being spent on illegal aliens getting free TV Licence/Free tickets at the Cinema, etc
We’ve got good news! 🥳 ... See MoreSee Less

Here in Rossendale and Darwen, Valley Leadership Academy is a vital school serving some of our most disadvantaged communities. It was recently identified as a 'stuck' school following successive 'requires improvement' Ofsted assessments. I know the staff and leadership at the school are working incredibly hard to drive improvement, and we are starting to see positive signs.
I spoke in the House of Commons today to ask the Minister of State for School Standards, Catherine McKinnell, to update me on what we are doing to support them.
She said "This government is delivering a new era of high and rising school standards because we know that when standards slip, it is disadvantaged children that suffer and we won't let that happen. That's why Labour's RISE teams are spearheading a stronger, faster system prioritising stuck schools, sending in advisors with a proven track record of turning schools around, and backing it up with up to £20 million pounds." ... Andy MacNae MP can you please provide what evidence shows how TVLA has improved? We are currently seeing a rise in substitute teachers, a rise in staffing turnover, a rise in student numbers put into reflect, a rise in students changing schools from TVLA. Not only locally but nationally we are losing subjects being taught to concentrate on the “key” five subjects of English, maths and science, meaning we are setting these kids up to fail going into further/higher education apprenticeships or the work place. Nationally we are seeing an increase in into home learning which shows how little faith parents have in the current education system.
What about children actually getting into a high school that is closest to their home????
Ràichéal B Mac Lochlainn you should comment on this. 🙄

On the anniversary of the murder of MP Jo Cox, we must remember never to let our political disagreements turn into hatred and violence.
Jo Cox serves as an inspiration for all of us to strive for a fairer and more compassionate society. She will always be in our hearts and our thoughts. Our friend and colleague Jo Cox, was murdered nine years ago today.

A Fairer and compassionate society you say. Is that why you voted Not to have an investigation into the Rape gangs.
Residents of Tonacliffe Road are very concerned about inconsiderate parking at school times, speeding vehicles and gridlock.
As we are all aware, highways are the responsibility of Lancashire County Council. If elected as your Rossendale Borough Councillor, I will work with Lancashire Highways to find a solution.
I believe in co-operation rather than conflict and I will work with all groups to get the best for Whitworth.
The Community First Councillors put forward an excellent plan last year to make sections of Tonacliffe Road one way to help calm traffic and prevent “rat running”. As your ward councillor, I will work with my fellow councillors and the County Council, using this plan as a basis, to get a solution that works for everyone.
