ABOUT ME
My name is Andy MacNae and I am your Member of Parliament for Rossendale and Darwen. I was elected in 2024 as a Labour Party candidate.
I live in Rossendale with my wife and son. Before being elected as your MP, I combined running my adventure sports business with being a local councillor. I have led on local regeneration initiatives including Rawtenstall Town Square, Lee Quarry Mountain Bike Trails, PEER (helping local businesses start and grow) and Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative.
I am a former full-time mountaineer, and I still climb today. Mountain climbing sparked my interest in public service, and I went on to become the national officer and deputy chief executive at the British Mountaineering Council.
Another interest of mine is cycling, I ride regularly and want to see more people getting the opportunity to cycle safely, which is why I became a trustee of Cycling UK and in parliament I am treasurer of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Cycling.
My objective as an MP is to be an effective champion for Rossendale and Darwen and to deliver on the things that matter to residents.
MY PRIORITIES
My top priorities as MP for Rossendale and Darwen are:
Transport
I want to see our communities better connected, with a commuter rail link from Rawtenstall to Manchester, more regular and reliable buses and quicker, safer journeys on the road, free from endless road works.
Education
Improving access to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Provision is key to ensuring every child in the constituency is provided with suitable education. Underperforming schools must be improved and apprentices should be available for those who could benefit from them.
Healthcare
In spite of NHS staff’s best efforts, waiting times are simply too long. I’m pushing for the long-term reforms to the service that we need to turn this situation around, in our local hospitals, GP surgeries and dentists.
Crime
I’m working alongside local police forces, the Police and Crime Commissioner, and the government to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour across the constituency.
Devolution
Lancashire is missing out on the incredible opportunities a Manchester-style devolution deal provides. I’m working for Lancashire to have its own Mayor, who would turbo-charge the renewal of our county.
Active Lifestyles
When we exercise more, we are both happier and healthier. I’m pushing for more accessible, high quality sports facilities in our area, and I’m working on a national level for us all to have improved access to nature.
Energy
On a national and global level, we must address the threat of climate change through the provision of clean energy. Locally I want to ensure that houses have sufficient insulation and I will be supporting the development of Great British Energy.
